'Beyond Yesterday's News'

Dateline: Tue 28 Aug 2012

News is hot. Everyone wants to get in on the conversation about media and/or write the obit for newspapers.

Here's a forum to jumpstart that tomorrow -- former TV news anchor Mike Ahern, weather dude Bob Gregory, TV reporter Barbara Boyd and the Star's very own investigative reporter Dick Cady will yak about what's happening in the business today (the Change) and also discuss memorable moments from their own illustrious careers. While the panelists are all officially retired from the news business, they are all still in the game. As an added bonus, Indianapolis Biz Journal publisher Micky Maurer will facilitate.

Public relations woman-about-town Patricia Pickett of Pickett and Associates has put together the panel discussion; proceeds will benefit Indy Creative Aging, a service provided by Central Indiana Council on Aging that promotes lively lifestyles for seniors.

Here's what Pickett has to say about the evening:

A forum of some of Central Indiana's most respected (and beloved) retired media pros will gather on August 29 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Indianapolis Art Center to discuss the changing landscape of media as well as their most memorable assignments and their very active lives today.

The event, "Beyond Yesterday's News," features Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Dick Cady, broadcasting pioneer Barbara Boyd, anchorman Mike Ahern and weatherman Bob Gregory. Moderated by the Indianapolis Business Journal's Mickey Maurer, proceeds from the forum will benefit Indy Creative Aging, a service of CICOA Aging and In-Home Solutions. Tickets to the event are $20 general admission; the event also offers a $10 senior and student admission.

"This panel illustrates everything that IndyCreativeAging.org represents," said Orion Bell, CICOA president and CEO. "Each panelist has continued being an active and valuable member of the community. They epitomize the spirit of aging creatively."

Thanks for sharing, Ruth, even if the event was poorly-timed and poorly advertised. Learned of it too late to attend.
