Editor and Publisher: the good news, the bad news

Dateline: Fri 15 Jan 2010

Thanks to the widely-read Tom Henderson, who prowls all sorts of web sites and found this yeaterday on The Wire (The Business Insider) -- "Editor & Publisher

, the long-time chronicler of the newspaper industry, is back in business.

Duncan McIntosh Co. Inc., a California-based publisher, just announced that they bought E&P for an undisclosed amount.

EditorandPublisher.com is active and a February print issue is in the works," writes Gillian Reagan.

The sour note? The former E and P editor in chief Greg Mitchell is not being rehired, after 10 years on the job;  nor is the beat reporter/senior editor Joe "Scoop" Strutt, who had worked there 12 years. Sucks.

Here's what Mithcell said on his blog:

"Got call from new buyer of Editor & Publisher, Duncan McIntosh, who publishes Boating World magazine and Fish Rap News in Irvine, Ca., a couple of hours ago, telling me that I am out as editor after eight years (and 10 years with magazine). The great Joe "Scoop" Strupp, senior editor, also out, after 12 years -- a truly great loss. Only four editors/writers left. One week ago in a meeting new owner told me flatly, "Extremely impressed with your great work and definitely will retain you."
