D and Z Gifts: New digs

Dateline: Fri 27 Nov 2009

If you didn't get on the email listing for D&Z Gifts, known for their fresh flowers (Paris comes to Indy) and clever cards, among other gift items, here is the happy news:

Dan and Dzintra Wild (with good dog chip, but of course) opened this Thanksgiving holiday at their new store at 4913 College Ave. That places them four blocks east of their previous store at 49th and Penn.

Hours are Tues-Fri from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those hours will change, says Dzintra Wild, as soon as Greg Hardesty's new restaurant, called Recess, opens just two doors south of their location.

That's a lot of good stuff on the corner.

I was happy to visit Danny and Dzintra, longtime Meridian-Kessler business people, the day before Thanksgiving -- and was gratified to see the swirl of customers in the new store, admiring the banks of gorgeous fresh flowers and the cool mural on the wall (a shop-filled streetscape, very colorful and lush). As for the cool little Parisian-style flower carts -- Danny Wild built them himself.

You can read more about the operation at the couple's website, www.dzflowers.com

There's a little more to this story, but for now, let's focus on the positive. And tha's Dan and Dzintra are back and in business.
