Jerry Lyst services

Dateline: Wed 24 Jun 2009

Calling is 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Leppert Mortuary in Nora.  The services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Second Presbyterian Church.

The outpouring of commentary in the Star about Jerry's life and times has been significant, including the news story by reporter John Tuohy that ran Monday, the tribute column by editorial page editor Tim Swaren's Tuesday  and today's piece by op-ed columnist Dan Carpenter, who recalls Jerry's "honest charm," his ability to listen to others and his respect for the opinions of others.

Every word is true and deserved. But I can't help but think that some of the sentiment is also wrapped in despair over the business model practiced today at the Star, where there are precious few, if any, individuals, in top management who exemplify the character of Mr. Lyst.

They cannot; they work for Gannett.

Jerry dodged that bullet, and therefore this is about him, not them. May he rest in peace...
