Fight the smears

The Obama campaign has created a new web site to address the lies that float around about him and his family. Most of them come from conservative talk radio, ala Rush Limbaugh, or right-wing bloggers. The new site:

According to Time magazine, Obama was asked by a McClatchey news reporter about the so-called "whitey" tape and Michelle Obama. This was on his first day of campaigning as the Dem nominee.

"Obama lost his cool," says Time.

"'We have seen this before. There is dirt and lies that are circulated in e-mails, and they pump them out long enough until finally you, a mainstream reporter, asks me about it,' Obama said, bristling. 'That gives legs to the story. If somebody has evidence that myself or Michelle or anybody has said something inappropriate, let them do it.'"

There's been a legitimate concern that Obama got a break from the news media during the primary; it was clear from my perch that he was favored over Hillary Clinton. But then he also got skewered by the MSM in the wake of the Rev. Wright story breaking.

It's one thing to provide fair scrutiny; it is another to create or repeat stories that are not proven and highly questionable. They push; he pushes back. Only fair.
