It could have been porn....

Frugal Hoosiers, code for our big fat, frugal Republican blog, is reporting a sweep --- www.elrodforcongress.com is already registered to Jen Wagner of Taking Down Words. That was quick, since Elrod just got his party's nod Sunday in the 7th District slating. He'll be running against the Dens' Andre Carson, also known as the heir apparent.

Missy Wagner is the communications director for the state Dems. So is her takeover of that Elrod blog site dirty tricks or just plain screwing-with-you? Depends on whose ox is being asked. Elrod, the great white hope of the GOP in the 7th District, is up against a Dem crown prince in Carson whose slating Saturday managed to piss off even the most loyal Dems (Bil Browning at Bilerico, more tk).

Sez Frugal Hoosiers today:

"Turns out that if you go to www.elrodforcongress.com, you get redirected to Taking Down Words, the unofficial blog of the Indiana Democrats the blog run by the Indiana Democrats' Communications Director that is updated during work hours but has absolutely nothing to do with the Indiana Democrats whatsoever.

"Being the nice guys we are, we wanted to give Jen Wagner the benefit of the doubt. So we did a WHOIS search to see who registered the Elrod for Congress domain.

"Turns out it's registered to Jennifer Wagner at what appears to be her home address and a private e-mail account. And it was registered on November 2, back before Elrod was even in the race.

"It would appear," concludes Frugal Hoosiers, "that someone is trying to get some new exposure to her blog in the anticipation that lots of people will soon be looking for Elrod's Congressional website. At the least, someone is already playing dirty in this race, and Jon Elrod seems to be getting hit with the most mud."

Jon Elrod's true site, btw, is www.jonelrod.com

I have no idea who invented dirty tricks way back when, but I know Karl Rove used them to his advantage during the Bush runs. In politics, nobody is immune. Here is what Wagner has to say about why she registered the site:

"I did it on a lark after Elrod announced and someone pointed out his domains were available.

"I was just having fun, hoping to give insiders a laugh. Average voters will never find those sites. If I were truly nefarious, I'd have redirected the domains to porn sites. Oh, and I'd have registered them anonymously.

"They need to lighten up and take political gamesmanship a little less seriously. :-)"

In reply to my question -- did you seek approval from your higher-ups?, the minx said...."P.S. I did it on my own with no asking of permission from anyone. I buy up domain names for sport."
