Details on calling, services for Joe Fahy

Dateline: Sun 28 Dec 2008

Here are some detailed arrangements from Joe's friend and former Star and News reporter Kevin Corcoran:

"Visitation for Joe Fahy will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary, 2126 E. 71st St. We're trying to arrange a time for people to share memories of Joe beginning at 7 p.m. I'm sure his family and friends would be interested in hearing any stories you might have to share. If you cannot stay until then, please consider posting stories to a Web site that's running Joe's full obit,

"The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 317 E. 57th St. We may be in need of people willing to serve as ushers and Eucharistic ministers. If you would be willing to serve in either capacity (must be Catholic to serve as a Eucharistic minister), please let me know backchannel. (If you've spoken to me, Bill Moreau or Char Burkett-Sims, you're in the mix.)

"Following the Mass, there will be a meal at Immaculate Heart for Joe's family and friends. Please plan to attend that, if you are able.

"Joe asked to be cremated. There will be a graveside service and interment that's announced in the Star a couple of months or so down the road.

"Joe's obituary ran in today's Star. A nice tribute to Joe appeared on the Star's Editorial Page today. In addition, Joe's final series began running today in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. There was a memorial service for Joe on Friday in Pittsburgh, and a number of his friends there took the opportunity to speak. His son, John, said it was the kind of service Joe wanted. Here's a link to Joe's final story, which includes a podcast, photos and the whole nine yards.
