Rita Rose's lineup

Dateline: Tue 02 Dec 2008

Friend and former Star employee Rita Rose, now a published author, has a series of book signings coming up in December.

Here are the dates/places, etc., for when she will sign copies of her debut novel. "World's Tallest Woman: The Giantess of Shelbyville High" (Hawthorne Publishing, $25 hardcover, $18 softcover):

Thursday, December 4, 6:30 to 9 p.m., Bookmamas, 9 Johnson Ave. in Irvington.

Saturday, December 6, noon to 4 p.m., Indiana History Center, Holiday Author Fair, 450 W. Ohio Street, downtown Indy. (Other ex-newspaper employees also will be there, including Mary Anne Barothy, Nelson Price, Jim Thom and Dick Cady.)

Tuesday, December 9, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., brown bag lunch at Greenfield-Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road in Greenfield. A talk about Sandy's life will precede the signing.

Saturday, December 13, 1-3 p.m., Shelbyville-Shelby County Public Library, 57 W. Broadway, Shelbyville. A talk will precede the signing.

Sez Rita: The book is based on the real-life experiences of her 7-foot-7 friend, Sandy Allen, who died in August.

Also, a small dig: the Star's contribution to publicizing Rita's book was to list her appearances in November in the Nov. 3 edition. No story, no photo, nothing but a small listing. Rita worked for the paper for 43 years. But then Gannett does not exactly celebrate the successes of former employees (ask Jim Hopkins at Gannett blog about that...)
