Kravitz signs on with Emmisland radio

Dateline: Wed 19 Dec 2007

Here's the press release, emailed this morning (sorry I am a little late, but when the grandsons are sick, the blogging takes a back seat).

"Indianapolis...1070 The Fan (WFNI-AM) unveiled plans for its new evening drive-time local sports talk show, which will feature Indianapolis Star sports columnist Bob Kravitz and well-known industry insider Eddie White.

"The show,"Kravitz & White: 1070 The Fan Unveils Hosts for Local Sports Show Evening Drive Time Show to feature Indianapolis Star sports columnist and prominent sports exec which will run from 3 - 6 p.m. Monday- Friday on 1070 The Fan, will feature talk about local and national sports topics with the occasional side of guy talk. The show premieres on Monday, Jan. 7, when The Fan officially launches.

"' Nobody has more connections in the sports world than Eddie, and nobody has more opinions about local and national sports than I do -- he's the fan, I'm the pundit," Kravitz said.

"'The big difference between Kravitz and me is that while he THINKS he knows everything, I actually do," said White, who has personally worked with legendary coaches Lou Holtz and Don Shula. "Like Bob Knight says, most of us learn to write in grade school and then move on to bigger and better things. Kravitz still just writes."

"Fans now have one spot to both celebrate and bemoan our local sports teams. Indianapolis is a world-class sports city, and this is the world-class sports talk show to match it," Tom Severino, Vice President/General Manager of Emmis-Indianapolis said.

"Kravitz, 47, has been the sports columnist for the Indianapolis Star since 2000. He's worked for several publications, including Sports Illustrated and the Rocky Mountain News. He's done previous radio work for The Fan in Denver (SportsRadio 950) and is a regular contributor to ESPN TV and Radio.

"White, who is older than Peyton Manning but younger than Donnie Walsh, is the former Vice President of Team Properties and Sports Marketing for the Adidas group, representing both the Reebok and Adidas brands. He has worked for the University of Notre Dame and the Miami Dolphins. White has worked 20 Super Bowls for the NFL, and is an avid golfer. He's had driving lessons from Richard Petty and putting lessons from Jack Nicklaus.

"In October Emmis announced its plans to migrate WIBC-AM news and talk programming to the 93.1 FM frequency. On Dec. 26, 2007, 1070 AM becomes WFNI, The Fan and 93.1 FM becomes WIBC with a news/talk lineup. From Dec. 26 until Jan. 7, 1070 AM will carry broadcasts of the greatest Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers, Indianapolis 500 and Indiana University games. On Jan. 7, WFNI launches as an ESPN affiliate. Below is the complete WFNI lineup as of Jan.7, 2008:

6 a.m. - 10 a.m. Mike and Mike in the Morning (ESPN Programming)

10 a.m. - 1 p.m. The Herd, with Colin Cowherd (ESPN Programming)

1 p.m. - 3 p.m. The Mike Tirico Show (ESPN Programming)

This is another major media marriage. Before the decade is over, the Star will be partners with everyone in town, if Gannett has its way. Still, good luck and good listening to all concerned.
